How-to guide

Export your Wix products for the Converter

You are leaving Wix. Export your products as CSV from your site’s dashboard, drop the file into the Converter, then check the images before you export the result.

Example: Atelier Démo sells 300 candles and ceramic items on Wix, some in several scents, and is moving to Shopify.

What the Converter recognises

DataExpected fileWhat the Converter reads in it
ProductsProducts CSV exported by Wix: the current format, with the handle and fieldType columns (PRODUCT, VARIANT and MEDIA rows), and the older format, with the handleId and fieldType columnsThe product, its variants, options and images, grouped by handle or handleId.
Customers (contacts)Only data from Wix’s Contacts API, saved in a .json fileOne record per contact.
OrdersOnly data from Wix’s orders API, saved in a .json fileOne record per order.

A contacts or orders CSV exported from the Wix dashboard has no format the Converter knows: it is not recognised as a customer or order file. The API’s JSON data needs someone technical to extract it.

Export products

  1. In your site’s dashboard, open the “Product” tab.
  2. Select the checkbox at the top left to choose all products, or filter a category.
  3. Click “More Actions”.
  4. Click “Export”.
  5. Select an export option, then click “Export”.

Large catalogue

According to Wix’s help, an exported file holds a limited number of rows, and digital products cannot be exported. A product takes one row, plus one per variant and one per image: a large catalogue needs several exports. The Converter converts them one by one; a mapping template saves you from redoing the same settings for each file.

Check the images of a Wix export

According to Wix’s help, the media column of an export holds a media ID, added automatically by Wix, and not necessarily the image’s web address. The Converter copies this value as it is into the image column of the file it writes. Yet Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce ask, according to their help, for an image address that can be reached online.

At the Mapping step, look at the image column in Preview of converted rows. If it holds IDs rather than full web addresses, those images cannot be downloaded from the file: find their addresses in Wix, as the FAQ of its help explains, or add the images in the new store.

Drop the file into the Converter

  1. In Eloshon Converter, click New conversion.
  2. At the Platforms step, choose Wix as the Source platform, then your new store’s platform as the Target platform.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. At the File step, drag the exported file onto the drop zone, or click the zone to choose it.
  5. Read the box that appears under the drop zone, then click Continue.

Check the result before you export

  • File recognized, followed by Wix and the type of data: the file is recognised.
  • “Unrecognized format: no column has a likely match. Check that this is an export from Wix (products, customers or orders), or export it again as CSV from your store.”: check that you dropped the products export, unchanged.
  • At the Review step, the What will not transfer (Shopify limits) list names what the target does not take, for example: “Wix ribbon badge is not carried.”

A conversion from a real Wix export has not been tried in the app yet. The Converter’s engine is checked by its tests with sample files in Wix format. Check the preview at the Mapping step and the review at the Review step before you export.
