About the screenshots
The screenshots on this page come from another sample file: their names and numbers are not those of the text. The screens, the buttons and their position are the same.
Where you start
Atelier Démo’s Shopify product export has 3 rows, one per product, with no variants:
- a fig candle at 24.00, with a barcode;
- an olive soap sold at 7.50 instead of 9.00;
- a linen notebook at 16.00.
Each product has a photo, a brand (Vendor) and tags (Tags).
What you will be able to do
- set aside a suggestion that would aim at the wrong column;
- read what BigCommerce does not receive: brand, tags, categories;
- recognize the
ProductandImagerows of the BigCommerce file.
Before you start
- Eloshon Converter installed on your computer: see the Download page.
- The products export of your Shopify store, as a CSV file: Export from Shopify.
- You do not need an Internet connection: the file is read and converted on your computer.
Step 1: Platforms
- Open Eloshon Converter. On the home screen, click the New conversion button below the title.
- Under Source platform, click Shopify.
- Under Target platform, click BigCommerce.
- Click Continue.
Step 2: File
- Drag your CSV file onto the Drop a CSV, JSON or .eloshon file, or click to browse area, or click the area to choose it.
- Read the card: File recognized · Shopify · products, with 3 rows.
- Click Continue.
Step 3: Mapping
The To handle filter keeps 4 rows. Only one really needs your attention: Gift Card.
- Read
Variant Compare At Price: To check, with the reason Compare-at or sale price: please check. In Preview of converted rows, the soap hasPrice= 9.00 andSale Price= 7.50: that is right. - Read
Gift Card: Uncertain, with the reason Suggestion: confirm with Edit. Do not confirm it: this column says whether the product is a gift card, while the suggestion would send it toIs Visible. Visibility already comes fromPublished, marked Safe. - Leave
Variant Inventory PolicyandVariant Inventory Trackerunconfirmed too: an unconfirmed suggestion writes nothing. - Click Continue to review.
Under the table, the BigCommerce fields with no column card says: Every important BigCommerce field has a column.
Step 4: Review
The counters show 3 products and 6 rows. The problem list is empty.
- Read the What will not transfer (BigCommerce limits) card. It has 4 lines, including Tags have no column in the BigCommerce import: they are not carried. and The brand has no column in the BigCommerce import (only the ID of a brand of your store): assign it in BigCommerce.
- Note what you will have to redo in BigCommerce: categories, brand, tags.
- Click Continue.
Step 5: Export
- Under Destination folder, keep the suggested folder (Documents, unless you changed it in Settings) or click Browse….
- Under File name, keep the suggested name: your file’s name followed by
_bigcommerce. - Click Export.
An earlier export can be replaced
A file with the same name in that folder is replaced without asking. Accented letters in the name become _: “café” and “cafè” give the same file. Choose a name without accents, different for each export.
The result
The Conversion complete screen lists the files written and their folder; Open folder opens that folder. The CSV file has 6 rows after the header: for each product, a Product row followed by an Image row (Item column).
Productrow:Name,SKU,Current Stock,Price, the description,Type=physical,Is Visible=TRUE.- The soap has
Price= 9.00 andSale Price= 7.50; the candle has its barcode inUPC/EAN. - The weight is in kilograms, in
Weight: 0.32 for the 320 g candle. Product URLreuses the Shopify identifier:/bougie-figue/.Imagerow: the photo address inImage URL (Import).
The file has no ID column: The ID column is removed (BigCommerce assigns its own IDs). Since the weight is written in kilograms, check the weight unit of your BigCommerce store before the import.
Messages you may see
- This file does not match the chosen source platform. The button next to the message picks the right source.
- Duplicate SKU “SAVON-OLIVE”: the target may overwrite or reject this product. Towards BigCommerce, this is a blocking error: fix the SKU with Fix.
- Missing price. This is a warning: Fix lets you give the price.
- An order file with BigCommerce as the target goes as far as step 5, where Export shows: BigCommerce has no order CSV import.
- If the file cannot be written to the chosen folder, the The conversion stopped window shows Unrecognized format., even though your file is recognized: choose another folder or another name.
Importing the file into BigCommerce
The Converter stops at the file: it does not connect to your store. The steps to import it into BigCommerce, based on BigCommerce’s official help, are in Import into BigCommerce. Eloshon has not tried this import in a real store: after the import, compare a few records with your old store.
Other ways to do it
- You often convert files of the same shape: at step 3, Save as template keeps your choices, and Apply a template applies them next time. See Mapping templates.
- Your customers are moving to BigCommerce too: follow Customers: Shopify to BigCommerce.
- Your file is long: at step 5, tick the option that splits it into files of at most 500 rows. Each file repeats the header. The
Imagerows stay with their product. - Your products come from a site read by Eloshon Scraper: choose Eloshon Scraper as the source and drop the job’s
products.jsonfile.
