Convert your Shopify products into a Wix file

Atelier Démo is opening a Wix store. You convert its Shopify product export, with several photos per product, and see where each photo lands in the Wix file.

About the screenshots

The screenshots on this page come from another sample file: their names and numbers are not those of the text. The screens, the buttons and their position are the same.

Where you start

Atelier Démo sells ceramics. Its Shopify product export has 5 rows:

  • a stoneware vase with three photos, each with its alt text (“Vase en grès de face”…): one row for the product, then one row per extra photo;
  • a bowl in two colours, blue and green, each colour with its own photo (Variant Image column).

What you will be able to do

  • spot the photo columns at the Mapping step;
  • read the PRODUCT, VARIANT and MEDIA rows of the Wix file;
  • know what Wix does not receive: the link between a colour and its photo.

Before you start

  • Eloshon Converter installed on your computer: see the Download page.
  • The products export of your Shopify store, as a CSV file: Export from Shopify.
  • Photos that are online: the file only holds their addresses, not the images themselves.

Step 1: Platforms

  1. Open Eloshon Converter. On the home screen, click the New conversion button below the title.
  2. Under Source platform, click Shopify.
  3. Under Target platform, click Wix.
  4. Click Continue.

Step 2: File

  1. Drag your CSV file onto the Drop a CSV, JSON or .eloshon file, or click to browse area, or click the area to choose it.
  2. Read the card: File recognized · Shopify · products, with 5 rows.
  3. Click Continue.

Step 3: Mapping

The To handle filter keeps 2 rows: Variant Inventory Policy (To check) and Variant Inventory Tracker (Uncertain), with the reason Suggestion: confirm with Edit. Do not confirm them: an unconfirmed suggestion writes nothing.

  1. Click the All filter.
  2. Find Image Src, Image Position and Image Alt Text: they go to media, marked Safe.
  3. Find Variant Image and Tags: they are not carried by Wix.
  4. Click Continue to review.

The Wix fields with no column card lists Barcode and Categories: the file has neither, so those columns stay empty.

Step 4: Review

The counters show 2 products and 9 rows: more rows than in your file, because the file written for Wix has one row per product, per variant and per photo. The problem list is empty.

  1. Read the What will not transfer (Wix limits) card: Option type (color…) is not carried by Wix.
  2. Read the Data with no match in Wix card: it names 5 Shopify columns with no place in the Wix file.
  3. Click Continue.

Step 5: Export

  1. Under Destination folder, keep the suggested folder (Documents, unless you changed it in Settings) or click Browse….
  2. Under File name, keep the suggested name: your file’s name followed by _wix.
  3. Click Export.

An earlier export can be replaced

A file with the same name in that folder is replaced without asking. Accented letters in the name become _: “café” and “cafè” give the same file. Choose a name without accents, different for each export.

The result

The Conversion complete screen lists the files written and their folder; Open folder opens that folder. The CSV file has 9 rows after the header, all tied to their product by the handle column:

  • the vase: one PRODUCT row (name, price 48.00, stock 6, SKU, weight 0.9 kg), then 3 MEDIA rows, one per photo, with the address in media and the alt text in mediaAltText;
  • the bowl: one PRODUCT row with productOptionName1 = Couleur and productOptionChoices1 = “Bleu;Vert”, 2 VARIANT rows (SKU, price, stock of each colour), then 2 MEDIA rows;
  • the description in plainDescription, the brand in brand.

Both photos of the bowl are written as product photos: the file does not say which one goes with blue or green. After the import, check in Wix which photo shows for each colour.

Messages you may see

  • This file does not match the chosen source platform. The button next to the message picks the right source.
  • The same image is used several times. This is information: the same photo address appears twice in one product.
  • With Wix as the target, only products go through. A customer file opens the The conversion stopped window, then step 2 refuses the file; an order file goes as far as step 5, where Export shows: Wix imports products only by CSV (no orders).
  • If the file cannot be written to the chosen folder, the The conversion stopped window shows Unrecognized format., even though your file is recognized: choose another folder or another name.

Importing the file into Wix

The Converter stops at the file: it does not connect to your store. The steps to import it into Wix, based on Wix’s official help, are in Import into Wix. Eloshon has not tried this import in a real store: after the import, compare a few records with your old store.

Other ways to do it

  • Your products come from a site read by Eloshon Scraper: choose Eloshon Scraper as the source and drop the job’s products.json file rather than its CSV, to keep every image.
  • You often convert files of the same shape: at step 3, Save as template keeps your choices, and Apply a template applies them next time. See Mapping templates.
  • Your file is long: at step 5, tick the option that splits it into files of at most 500 rows. Each file repeats the header. The rows of one product (variants and photos) stay together.
  • To see how the Converter reads and writes image addresses: Images and image addresses.
