How-to guide
Export your BigCommerce data for the Converter
You are leaving BigCommerce. Export your products, customers or orders as CSV from the control panel, check the expected columns, then drop each file into the Converter.
Checked against the software on November 1, 2026
Example: Atelier Démo sells 85 fine food products on BigCommerce and is moving to WooCommerce, with its order history.
What the Converter recognises
| Data | Expected file | What the Converter reads in it |
|---|---|---|
| Products | CSV from BigCommerce’s “modern” product import/export, with the Item and Inventory Tracking columns | A Product row, then its Variant and Image rows, in the file’s order. |
| Customers | Customers CSV, with the Email and City/Suburb columns, and one of the State/Province, Customer Group, Store Credit or Receive Marketing Emails columns | One row per customer. |
| Orders | Orders CSV, with the Order ID and Order Total (inc tax) columns; line items are read in Product Name or Product SKU | One row per line item; the rows of an order share the same Order ID. |
BigCommerce’s legacy product import/export names its columns differently (Item Type, Product Name…): the Converter does not recognise that format. It also reads customers and orders obtained through the BigCommerce REST API and saved in a .json file, if someone technical extracts them for you.
The labels below are those of BigCommerce’s official help.
Export products
- For the whole catalogue, go to “Products › Export”. For a few products, check them in “Products › View”, then click “Export”.
- On the export page, click “Start export”.
- When the export is complete, click the CSV file name to download it.
Do not sort the products file
The Converter attaches each Variant or Image row to the product above it. A row placed before any product is left out, and the Review step says so: “2 orphan row(s) skipped.”
In a BigCommerce export, the weight does not state its unit: the Converter asks you to choose in the BigCommerce weight unit window, and your choice applies to the whole file. Categories and brand are numbers there, without their names: “BigCommerce category names (IDs only) are not carried.”
Export customers
- Go to “Customers › Export”.
- Choose an export template (“Bulk Edit” or “Default”) and the CSV format.
- Click “Continue”, then the button that exports your customers.
- When the file is ready, click “Download”.
No real BigCommerce customer export has been tried. If the File step does not recognise your file, check that it has a column named exactly City/Suburb. According to BigCommerce’s help, customer passwords cannot be exported; the Converter never carries any.
Export orders
- Go to “Orders › Export Orders”.
- Choose the “Default” template or a custom template, and the CSV format.
- Click “Continue”, then “Start export”.
- When the file is ready, click “Download my Orders file”.
The Converter reads one line item per row. According to BigCommerce’s help, a custom export template can write one row per item (the “Sub Items” setting of the advanced CSV export settings). Orders with several line items have not been tried. An order with no line item read is not written; if none is written, the export stops on “Order with no line items.”. BigCommerce takes no orders by CSV: your orders will go to Shopify or WooCommerce.
Drop the file into the Converter
- In Eloshon Converter, click New conversion.
- At the Platforms step, choose BigCommerce as the Source platform, then your new store’s platform as the Target platform.
- Click Continue.
- At the File step, drag the exported file onto the drop zone, or click the zone to choose it.
- Check that the box under the drop zone shows File recognized, then click Continue.
A conversion from a real BigCommerce export has not been tried in the app yet. The Converter’s engine is checked by its tests with sample files in BigCommerce format. Check the preview at the Mapping step and the review at the Review step before you export.
