Convert your Shopify customers into a WooCommerce file
Atelier Démo is taking its customers from Shopify to WooCommerce. One of them has no e-mail and blocks the export: you fix it in the Converter, without touching your file.

About the screenshots
The screenshots on this page come from another sample file: their names and numbers are not those of the text. The screens, the buttons and their position are the same.
Where you start
Atelier Démo’s Shopify customer export has 3 customers:
- Léa, with an address in Brussels, a phone number, and subscribed to the store’s e-mails;
- Tom, with only his name and e-mail;
- Nadia, an in-store customer in Ghent, saved without an e-mail.
What you will be able to do
- recognize a blocking error at the Review step;
- fix it without changing your original file;
- read the account file written for WooCommerce.
Before you start
- Eloshon Converter installed on your computer: see the Download page.
- The customers export of your Shopify store, as a CSV file: Export from Shopify.
- The e-mail address to give each customer who has none.
Step 1: Platforms
- Open Eloshon Converter. On the home screen, click the New conversion button below the title.
- Under Source platform, click Shopify.
- Under Target platform, click WooCommerce.
- Click Continue.
Step 2: File
- Drag your CSV file onto the Drop a CSV, JSON or .eloshon file, or click to browse area, or click the area to choose it.
- Read the card: File recognized · Shopify · customers, with 3 rows.
- Click Continue.
Step 3: Mapping
No row needs handling. In the table, Note and Accepts Email Marketing are not carried by WooCommerce: the file written for WooCommerce has no column for them.
- Click Continue to review.
Step 4: Review
The counters show 3 customers, but only 2 rows. The banner says: Export is blocked: 1 blocking problem(s) to fix. The Continue button is greyed out.
- In the list, find row 4, marked Blocking: Customer has no e-mail: it cannot be created.
- On that row, click Fix. There is no Ignore button: a blocking problem cannot be ignored.
- In New value, type Nadia’s e-mail (
nadia.benali@example.com), then click Save. - Wait for the screen to recalculate: 3 customers, 3 rows, and the banner No blocking problems. Warnings do not prevent export.
- Click Continue.
The e-mail is only added to the conversion: The value is changed in memory; your original file is never touched. The What will not transfer (WooCommerce limits) card reminds you: Passwords never migrate. Customers also arrive without a marketing subscription, Léa included.
Step 5: Export
- Under Destination folder, keep the suggested folder (Documents, unless you changed it in Settings) or click Browse….
- Under File name, keep the suggested name: your file’s name followed by
_woocommerce. - Click Export.
An earlier export can be replaced
A file with the same name in that folder is replaced without asking. Accented letters in the name become _: “café” and “cafè” give the same file. Choose a name without accents, different for each export.
The result
The Conversion complete screen lists the files written and their folder; Open folder opens that folder. The CSV file has one row per customer, 3 here:
user_loginanduser_emailboth hold the customer’s e-mail;roles=customer;- the address is written twice, as billing (
billing_…) and shipping (shipping_…); - Léa’s phone number is in
billing_phone; - Nadia has her name, city and country, with the e-mail given at step 4;
- Tom only has his name and e-mail.
The note “Cliente du comptoir” and Léa’s subscription are not in the file: copy them by hand into WooCommerce if you need them.
Messages you may see
- This file does not match the chosen source platform. The button next to the message picks the right source.
- Duplicate e-mail “lea.martin@example.com”: only the last one is imported. This is a warning: two rows have the same e-mail. Fix one of them with Fix, or leave them.
- If the file cannot be written to the chosen folder, the The conversion stopped window shows Unrecognized format., even though your file is recognized: choose another folder or another name.
For other errors that block the export, see Error blocking the export.
Importing the file into WooCommerce
The Converter stops at the file: it does not connect to your store. The steps to import it into WooCommerce, based on WooCommerce’s official help, are in Import into WooCommerce. Eloshon has not tried this import in a real store: after the import, compare a few records with your old store.
Other ways to do it
- Several customers have no e-mail: fix them one by one at step 4, or complete them in Shopify and export again.
- Your Shopify orders are moving to WooCommerce too: Orders: Shopify to WooCommerce.
- You often convert files of the same shape: at step 3, Save as template keeps your choices, and Apply a template applies them next time. See Mapping templates.
- Your file is long: at step 5, tick the option that splits it into files of at most 500 rows. Each file repeats the header.
